Fake news is being used to slander the bearers of truth:
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 17, 2017
President Donald Trump was right when he said: The FAKE NEWS media is the enemy of the American People! He was just intentionally wrong about who the fake news media is.
“YOU ARE FAKE NEWS” President Trump – first press conference
Russia TV popped up:
By bundling up the message the messenger and the institution, “you are fake news”, Trump turns his definition of fake news into a weapon of psychological warfare. It allows him to slander and discredit an entire media outlet regardless of the quality of their reporting. It allows him to escape his news conference without having to respond to reason. It allows him to seemingly deny allegations while continuing to slander the reporter and the news organization at the same time. It “innoculates” viewers from the truth by programming them with the desired response. It allows media all over the world to broadcast our President denigrating our media as an institution and declaring to the world that the truth is just Fake News. Perhaps the worst effect is to Subvert our Democracy by undermining the very institution that exists to hold power accountable.
Only a genius could have thought that one up.
Who when where what why and how have others been pushing this narrative?
Fox is the home of Sean Hannity and Fox and Friends the two biggest Trump propaganda programs on US television.MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show has become the number one program on cable news because it discusses the facts of the Russia scandal and the Trump presidency. Fox News has fallen behind Maddow and MSNBC because, at a time when Americans are craving truth, Fox decided to become Trump propaganda.

Ailes was hired to create the Fox News Channel to be an alternative to the established TV news networks. It was aimed to reach an audience outside the New York-Washington media nexus and speak to people who believed that traditional American values were being abandoned and that government interfered too much in their lives
Among the gifts to Murdoch from Reagan was the elimination of the ‘fairness doctrine’, requiring balance in broadcasting In the years that followed, with the help of the Reagan administration’s relaxed policies, Murdoch’s media empire in the US burgeoned: within two years he had become a naturalized citizen of the US, allowing him to meet a regulatory requirement that television stations be owned by Americans; and by 1986 he had founded the Fox Broadcasting Company. Among the biggest gifts to Murdoch from the Reagan administration was the elimination of the “fairness doctrine”, which required political balance in broadcasting, allowing Murdoch a free pass in driving home his network’s brand of fierce conservatism. But other smaller relaxations of regulations were helpful, too. Advertisement Practically every utterance of Reagan’s initial FCC chairman, Mark Fowler, was music to Murdoch’s ears. Fowler famously said a TV was nothing more than a “toaster with pictures” (read: a frivolous commodity requiring only the bare minimum in safety regulations), removed controls on what radio stations could air and indicated the same logic should apply to television. The rule change allowed stations to follow market incentives in programming, a move that allowed for the transformation of dutiful public affairs programs into just the sort of entertainment Murdoch made a fortune promoting. It was Fowler’s FCC that in approving his acquisition of local TV stations allowed Murdoch to form his fourth major network: Fox. Though Murdoch wouldn’t enter the cable news market with the Fox News Channel until the following decade –1996, to be precise – through Reagan, Fowler and Cohn the groundwork had been laid. •••
Rupert Murdoch and his sons want out of the movie business, and maybe more First Time Warner, now Fox. The media moguls are bailing.

AP News: Pope: ‘Fake news’ is evil, journalists must search for truth. Francis writes that the first fake news dates from the Biblical beginning of time, when Eve was tempted to take an apple from the Garden of Eden based on disinformation from the serpent.
